Divinity Roxx
Divinity Roxx (she/her) is inspirational and genuine. As a Grammy-nominated musician and artist, she has earned the reputation of irrefutable front-woman of her own genre-bursting and compelling musical journey.
Her career as a bass player skyrocketed after attending a bass camp led by the legendary Victor Wooten where she was invited to tour with him three months after the camp. After touring with Victor for five years, she became the bass player and Assistant Musical Director for Beyoncé. She was given a featured solo performance by the artist in the DVDs Beyoncé Experience and I..Am Sasha Fierce. She also composed original music for the “I…AM” Sasha Fierce tour and DVD.
Divinity has appeared on countless television shows including The Grammy’s, Saturday Night Live, Good Morning America, The Arsenio Hall Show, Ellen, and The American Music Awards, with personal highlights including a special performance at The White House and an appearance on the hit TV show Soul Man. She is the current bass player in the Black Girls Rock! Orchestra which airs on BET and has played with such artists as Jay-Z, Nona Hendryx, Will.I.Am, Erykah Badu, Patti Labelle, Ledisi, and Gladys Knight.
Despite her appearances with so many legendary and iconic figures, it is in her solo performance that Divinity shines brightest. She combines virtuosic bass playing with an eclectic mash-up of hip-hop, rock, and funk that she calls ‘Alternative Soul’. Her passion for composition combined with her lyrical prowess and electrifying stage presence captivates audiences worldwide.
Her 2016 release ImPossible received critical acclaim and earned her an Independent Music Award for ‘Best Spoken Word Album’, further highlighting the depth of her lyrical aptitude. The album features the Keith Harris-produced song ‘We Are,’ inspired by her former poetry professor the late great June Jordan. The album also features an appearance by her mentor and five-time Grammy Award-winning artist Victor Wooten.
She is currently performing, teaching, and writing multiple projects including a new album, a stage play, and a children’s book and music series. She was recently hand-picked to teach the ‘Art of Emceeing’ in Santo Domingo by the US State Department for the Cultural Diplomacy program ‘Next Level,’ which broadens the scope of hip-hop culture around the globe.
