Our Mission

What we do…

Hi-ARTS nurtures the space for Artists, Audiences and Arts Administrators of the Global Majority to engage in creative process, through developmental residencies, civic engagement, education, and artistic programming. While placing an emphasis on process in all that we do, Hi-ARTS is committed to creating an environment where artistic experimentation and process are valued and celebrated.

How we do it…

Developmental Residencies

Hi-ARTS primarily supports multidisciplinary artists working in the performing and/or visual arts, and who are at a pivotal moment in their career and/or creative practice. Through developmental artist residencies that place an emphasis on process rather than product/ion, Hi-ARTS provides artists with financial and administrative support, professional development, mentorship, time, and space — allowing artists to concentrate on the development of their work.

Civic Engagement

While Hi-ARTS is dedicated to providing our artists continued support in creative development, we invite our audiences into our community through additional partnerships, and programming that reflects the immediate needs of our communities as related to health, beautification, well-being, cultural exchange, and the pressing need of our times.

Education

Hi-ARTS provides artists and communities with educational opportunities in safe, professional, and stimulating environments. Hi-ARTS provides learners of all ages with culturally informed methods and tools while developing creative skills and interests that provide a deeper understanding of Black History and contemporary urban art.

Artistic Programming

This work is shared through artistic programming that is curated alongside our artists, alumni, community and partners that invites audiences, collaborators and artists to engage with art and education that uplifts the stories, perspectives and experiences of the Global Majority.

Why we do it…

Hi-ARTS addresses the need for creative spaces that offer professional support to artists of the global majority, while placing an emphasis on process, care, and humanity. Hi-ARTS is committed to transforming how Artists, Audiences and Arts Administrators of the Global Majority engage in Artist Support and creative development.

The more opportunities we as Black and Brown humans can get to make our art, the more visibility there will be of us. We deserve to see ourselves in our art and not know what it is or have a big name attached to it. We deserve opportunities to figure it out! Look at our work! We are doing the work. We’re showing up. We’ll tell you what we need.
