Join the 2022 Artspace Artist Exchange cohort Brian Henry, Katie Madison, Darrius Strong, Joseph Tran, and Nancy Xiong in conversation, movement, and community on March 26 at Hi-ARTS. The Artspace Artist Exchange Community Class is an opportunity for participants to work with and learn from four experienced movement-based artists. Instructors will lead a two-hour workshop comprised of 20-minute sessions showcasing a variety of dance styles, techniques, and disciplines, followed by refreshments and a community talk with the cohort.

In Brian Henry’s session, participants can learn the basics of Krump through the use of drills that aim to strengthen participants' sense of comfort and confidence. Darrius Strong’s session will explore using everyday gestures and body language in dance. Explore Break and the potential of a single move with Joseph Tran. Nancy Xiong will lead a session for individuals centered around selecting choreography and making it your own.

In conjunction with The Cowles Center, this in-person event will take place at Hi-ARTS. This program is supported and funded by Artspace. Artspace is the leading non-profit developer of live/work artist housing, artist studios, art centers, and arts-friendly businesses.

The Artspace Artist Exchange is a five-month-long explorative pilot program with 6 BIPOC movement-based artists invested in the roots of their dance styles with a history of creating, researching, and educating around their artistic practice. This year’s Artspace Artist Exchange cohort is Brian Henry, Katie Madison, Darrius Strong, Joseph Tran, and Nancy Xiong.
