Hi-ARTS to receive $20,000 grant from National Endowment for the Arts

New York, NY — Hi-ARTS has been approved for a $20,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support Hi-ARTS in their general operations and the continued support of artistic and creative development through residency programs. Hi-ARTS is a leading cultural hub within the urban arts movement. Through artistic development residencies, vibrant multi-disciplinary creative programming, and civic engagement opportunities, they empower artists to develop bold new work while creating a positive, lasting impact on their community. Hi-ARTS is the only institution in New York City, and one of the few in the country, exclusively dedicated to supporting and developing Hip-Hop and the urban aesthetic.

Hi-ARTS is among 1,248 projects across America totaling $28,840,000 that were selected to receive this first round of the fiscal year 2022 funding in the Grants for Arts Projects category.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support arts projects like this one from HI-ARTS that help support the community’s creative economy,” said NEA Acting Chair Ann Eilers. Hi-ARTS in Harlem, New York is among the arts organizations nationwide that are using the arts as a source of strength, a path to well-being, and providing access and opportunity for people to connect and find joy through the arts.”

“Our Hi-ARTS family——artists and other residents of color in East Harlem—has been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, and funding allowed us to continue to support our community through in-person, virtual, and hybrid programs,” says Aaron L. McKinney, Hi-ARTS Executive Director.
