Casting Call | Juniper Performance Studio & National Black Theatre, IN THE NAME OF THE MOTHER TREE

Jupiter Performance Studio and National Black Theatre, and still seeking local artists for, Ebony Noelle Golden's (SKY LAB Alum) IN THE NAME OF THE MOTHER TREE, a movement and music-based theatrical ceremony. This project is an ongoing touring commitment, with the World Premiere taking place in September 2024 at Apollo Theatre.  the world premiere of it will be in the new space at the Apollo Theatre in September.

 Ideal candidates are local, collaborative, agile dancers, singers, and actors comfortable with rituals and spiritual practices and are comfortable working outdoors/in nature, and with exploring spiritual themes outside of Christianity. 

Virtual interviews will begin on March 5, 2024.

Please note that we are seeking artists local to New York City for this project. Each of these characters should be an agile dancer, singer, and actor comfortable with rituals and spiritual practices beyond christianity, islam or judaism such as hoodoo and earth-based religions. Participants must also be comfortable with traditional African spiritual practices involving dirt, herbs, incense, sage, water, and working outside of the traditional theatre space, ie., in gardens, farms, rivers, etc. Comfortability performing multiple genders and joining a queer and proudly black ensemble is also a must. Seeking local artists available to join the company for tour.

CASTING

[VETIVER] - Vetiver: 40s. They call her Veti for short. Teeny’s big sister. She’s the color of the night sky. Thick with it, her thighs are tree trunks. A fighter and a fire-starter. She’s nice with the roots and herbs. Un-fuck-with-able.

[TEENY] - Teeny: 25-30. Jet Black woman. Small but tall in spirit. Bells ring in her throat. A witness and a reluctant water devotee. She is of them but not one of them. Swirling.

[STICK] - Stick: Mid 25-30. Long and lean and cut. Sexy. Honey-colored. He knows where the bodies are buried and how to make love to the river.
