Hi-ARTS Welcomes 2024-25 Artists in Residence
Hi-ARTS is excited to introduce their 2024-25 Spring Artist Residency Cohort: This year the Harlem-based non-profit welcomes a cohort of seven artists into their CRITICAL BREAKS, SKY LAB and Artist Intensive Residency Programs. Joining Hi-ARTS as CRITICAL BREAKS residents are Andrea Ambam, Jay Saint Flono, Alle Mims, Reynaldo Piniella, and Evelyn Tejeda. CRITICAL BREAKS supports works at a pivotal point in the development of their work. SKY LAB supports artists who center community at the root of their creative development. This fall, Hi-ARTS welcomes SKY LAB Artist Yang Sun & Poets. Through their Artist Intensive, Hi-ARTS will support Jeffrey Rashad.

Hi-ARTS awarded $148,500 by the New York State Council on the Arts
New York, NY — Hi-ARTS announced today a grant award totaling $148,500 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector. Following New York State’s historic investment for the arts, NYSCA has awarded $90 million since Spring 2022 to a record number of artists and organizations across the state.
CENTER FOCUS to Spotlight Black Women Photographers
Co-curated by Irungu and Hi-ARTS, New York City’s premier incubator for urban art, Center Focus will highlight the individual journey of acclaimed and emerging photographers
Eliana Carter, Andrea K. Castillo, Poochie Collins, Maria J. Hackett, Myesha Evon Gardner, Ashli Owens, and Edolia Stroud through multimedia content and visual storytelling. Work includes both portraits of Black women and pieces that capture the world as seen through a Black woman’s gaze.
Hi-ARTS to Receive $100,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts as part of the American Rescue Plan
Hi-ARTS is pleased to announce they have been approved to receive an American Rescue Plan grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to help the arts and cultural sector recover from the pandemic.
Hi-ARTS Announces 2022 Resident Recipients
As the New Year begins to unfold, Hi-ARTS welcomes its newest cohort of residents for its signature CRITICAL BREAKS and SKY LAB residencies. Jay Délise, Germono Toussaint, and two collaborative duos — Zachariah Ezer & Dominique Rider and Brian Quijada & Nygel D. Robinson — join the CRITICAL BREAKS residency, which provides an intensive development process, rehearsal space, and a public offering (performance, experience or showing) of their choice to artists in a pivotal phase of creating new work. Friday Lynton joins as an Artist-in-Residence for SKY LAB, a program that supports socially engaged artists who center community in the development and research of their work, including practitioners who create outside of the traditional studio or theater.
Hi-ARTS Names Aaron L. McKinney as its New Executive Director
The Board of Directors of Hi-ARTS — an urban arts incubator that has helped develop acclaimed works of art from creators including Dominique Morisseau, Radha Blank, Alex Alpharaoh and Ebony Noelle Golden — announced today the appointment of Aaron L. McKinney as executive director.
